What to expect on the day of your appointment

Arrival and Check-In: You’ll be welcomed by the friendly reception staff.

Preliminary Tests: An ophthalmic assessor will perform initial tests, which might include:

  • Vision Test: Assessing how well you see at different distances.
  • Macular Scan: Imaging the macula to check for any issues.
  • Intraocular Pressure Measurement: Checking the pressure inside your eyes to screen for conditions like glaucoma.
  • Visual field testing: checking the peripheral vision

Doctor: Your ophthalmologist will use a slit lamp, which is a special microscope with a bright light, to examine your eye’s internal structures in detail. The doctor will ask about your symptoms and any concerns you may have.

Discussion: The doctor will review your test results, discuss your diagnosis, and recommend treatment options. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask any questions you have about your condition or treatment plan.

Expect your initial appointment to take one to two hours.  You may need dilating drops to enlarge the size of the pupil. You will not be able to drive for 2-3 hours after these drops due to blurred vision and so it is recommended that you do not drive yourself to the appointment.
