Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve, often due to high pressure in the eye.  The damage of Glaucome can lead to vision loss or blindness if not treated promptly.

This condition developed gradually and often does not show any early symptoms.

What treatment might I need?

We treat glaucoma by lowering the intraocular pressure (IOP).

Treatment usually involves eye drops initially however later or surgery may be required.

Our surgeons are trained in MIGS (Micro Invasive Glaucoma Surgery) and insert the Istent for treatment of glaucoma as indicated.  We also offer on-site lasers including Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) and Iridotomy for the treatment of glaucoma.

Further information about glaucoma is available at Glaucoma Australia.

At our clinic we provide comprehensive treatment and monitoring for patients with glaucoma.  During your appointments, expect routine tests to measure your intraocular pressure (IOP) and assess your peripheral vision through visual field tests.

Usually glaucoma is a slowly progressive disease that affects the peripheral vision. We rely on our optometry colleagues to screen for glaucoma in the community and they may refer you if they have concerns. Having a family history of glaucoma can greatly increase your risk of having the disease.
